Geoffrey road is a small residential development in Brockley, Lewisham, providing 8 high quality family houses along with 1 fully adaptable wheelchair house close to transport links and plenty of local amenities. Set in a backland site within Brockley Conservation Area, the design stemmed from looking in depth at the surrounding context and rich architectural history of the area. The two-storey proposal with hipped roofs reference the existing house design along Geoffrey Road while the use of sympathetic brick and timber materials reflect the context while maintaining a modern aesthetic.

The centre of the site is an open area of communal space with planting and trees surrounding it to create a welcoming entrance to the site with soft low-level planting, helping to increase biodiversity across the site. This proposal will bring forward an underutilized site and the houses will also benefit from ample cycle storage and south facing courtyard gardens. The overall design is in keeping with the area given it’s setting within a conservation area while still providing a high-quality contemporary piece of architecture.
